Start the itinerary from Keelung port and drive approximately 50 min to Long Shan Temple. Long Shan Temple was built in 1738, the temple features classic Taiwanese architecture styles mixed with design elements from southern China. It is a Buddhistic temple, but Daoists and worshippers of aboriginal folk deities come here as well. Grass Lane is near by the temple; it is the main trade market of traditional herbal medicine in Taipei. Visit the herbal shops here, you may learn some tips which the locals use to keep their health.
After about 50-min stay around Long Shan Temple, we will gather and leave for Nan-Men traditional market. Approximately 40 min of driving, we will arrive the market. Before the presence of supermarkets, traditional markets were the main places for people to buy living groceries in Taiwan. Visit Nan-Men traditional market where you can find various groceries, fresh raw food, and featured dishes from Taiwan and China. We will stay about 30 min for visit.
Then, enjoy the delicious dumplings and Shanghai style dishes at a local restaurant. After having a great lunch, we will drive about 30 min to the tea house. You will experience the traditional tea making procedures. Then, have a cup of Chinese tea to enjoy the scent and refreshment. We approximately stay 60 min at the tea house and then leave for next stop.
After 20 min of driving, we will arrive Di-hua street, which is crammed with historic, photogenic houses of Baroque style built in 1920s. It was the commercial center of Chinese herbal medicine, dried-food, fabrics, tea, rice, and groceries. It is still the main market of fabrics and groceries. Before the Chinese New Year, the stores will start selling goods special for the great festival. Many people will go there to buy things and experience the atmosphere. You can also visit the Hsia-hai City God Temple, built in 1856, famous for the Matchmaker (said to have brought together 6000 couples).
