WHAT YOU VISIT
- Skansen
Founded in 1891, the oldest outdoor museum in the world offers an immersive experience into Swedish history, culture and traditions. Stroll through five centuries of Swedish history, from north to south, past historical buildings and dwellings from different parts of the country that were disassembled and transported here. Learn how Swedes-from farmers to aristocrats-lived and worked during different centuries. Populated by characters in period dress, there are glass-blowing demonstrations and craft workshops. The small zoo is home to a variety of animals native to Scandinavia.
- Gubbhyllan Restaurant
Built in 1816, this charming building served as a summer residence until 1852, when it was converted into a café. The name Gubbhyllan translates to "Old Men's Shelf" and refers to the early guests who would gather on the terrace with glasses of punch and cigars. Today it is run by one of Sweden's top chefs, a devotee of traditional Swedish cuisine. Savor five traditional appetizers on the tasting menu.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
- The island of Djurgården is renowned for its parklands and gardens, so snap a few photos from your motorcoach window. There are numerous opportunities to photograph traditional Swedish life from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries in Skansen, a living museum and zoo. From the village's highest point, take in the spectacular views spanning all of Stockholm. Be sure to take a selfie with a character in period dress or one of the friendly Nordic goats!
SHOPPING

- The Museum Shop of Skansen, located near the main entrance, offers an extensive range of products and souvenirs. The Potter's Workshop displays and sells handmade items, and the Stockholm Glass Workshop has a dazzling array of artistic objects and specialty glassware, including the signature "crackled glass" that has been produced in Skansen since 1933. A small bakery famous for cinnamon buns also sells breads and pastries, and additional market stalls can be found on the property.
