Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Your tour begins as you board your motorcoach for a drive through the countryside towards Stockholm and Gamla Stan, the Old Town where Stockholm began over eight centuries ago.

Here in Stockholm's oldest most historic district you'll disembark, for the first stop of the day, the Royal Palace.  The Royal Palace of Stockholm is one of Europe's largest palaces, the king's official residence and the setting for many of the monarchy's official receptions. Built during the 18th century, this Italian baroque palace was erected where the 'Tre Kronor' castle stood until it burned down in 1697. Inside, over 600 rooms are divided between seven floors, many of which face an inner courtyard. As you tour, there is much to see, but highlights include the State Apartments.

Your guided walking tour continues through the charming city streets of Old Town, leading you to Stockholm Cathedral.  Also known as Coronation Church, its construction began in 1306, making it the oldest building still in use in Stockholm.  It is the site of religious services and concerts, as well as royal coronations, weddings and funerals. The church's relatively unassuming exterior gives way to a unique and beautiful collection of Medieval and contemporary art, including the famous sculpture of St. George and the Dragon.

Continue to follow your guide through the meandering cobblestone paths of Old Town and keep your camera at the ready, for there is much to see. The charming center square, Stockholm's narrowest alley, and Vasterlanggatan, Old Town's number one tourist street, are just a few of the highlights.

Enjoy some free time to explore independently before it is time to set out on the 50 minute Royal Canal Cruise. On the canal we will pass several historical buildings, museums and beautiful green areas. Out on more open waters you will pass Fjäderholmarna, the Feather Islands, being the first real archipelago islands. Continue passed Prince Eugen's Waldemarsudde, the Gröna Lund Tivoli and much more. Before heading back to the pier, a fabulous view of the Stockholm skyline opens up - only to be seen from the water!

At the completion of this exceptional day, relax and chat with fellow travelers about the wonders you have seen as you ride back to port.
