Nynäshamn boasts a beautiful countryside, vibrant town center and magnificent views of the sea from the mainland. A short motorcoach drive from port affords the opportunity to take in the beauty of this petite city, drive along the beautiful Strandvägen road with its magnificent views of the archipelago, make a brief stop at the Nature Reserve of Lövhagen and learn a little about the Swedish flora and fauna before continueing along the paths of the Vikings.

There are 27 rune stones in the municipality of Nynäshamn, and some can be traced back to the 11th century, during the Viking Age. Rune stones are not gravestones as many believe, but they are created in memory of ancestors that have passed away. A photo of these intricately carved works of art is a wonderful way to commemorate your visit to Nynäshamn.

Your guide will tell you about the Vikings and the adventures of Viking Toste who, in 1036, made the decision to join a Viking expedition to the Caspian Sea (from which he never returned). Several old rune stones can be seen along the way and you'll stop at the Stone of Toste, situated in the forest just a brief walk from the coach. In the 11th century, the pagans slowly had to made room for Christianity and the first Christian churches were built.

Then, continue on to Ösmo Church, originally dating back to the 12th century but renovated in the 14th century. When you step inside, you'll see beautiful paintings created by Albertus Pictor, considered the most celebrated church painter of the Middle Ages. It is in this spot where the noted Swedish author August Strindberg gave trial sermons in the 19th century.

At the completion of your informative day exploring the highlights of Nynäshamn, you will also visit the small marina at Nynashamn before your return drive back to port.
