WHAT YOU VISIT:
- St. Lucia (driving tour)
Your sightseeing tour begins in Castries. Founded in 1650 by the French, today, it's a tropical paradise of gingerbread houses tucked on the hillside overlooking crystal blue waters. Among the sights you'll see in the capital city include the uniquely decorated Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Dating back to 1897, it's the largest of its kind in the Caribbean (be sure to capture the Italian-style clock tower and Victorian details as you drive by). Another noted landmark is Derek Walcott Square, named after the Nobel Prize winner for literature.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
A brief stop at Pigeon Island offers photos of the spectacular coastline with views of the neighboring French island of Martinique on the horizon.
