What you will visit:
St. Lucia Distilleries
Rum has a long tradition in Caribbean culture and is a key part to the economy of the islands. The spirit of St. Lucia is found within its only local rum distillery, an engaging "Rhythm of Rum" tour. Delve into the history of sugar and learn the background of rum distillation in the Caribbean islands. Watch a video presentation, and view a village street scene, spice market and colorful carnival costumes. See how this heartwarming nectar is produced, and taste the finished product. Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase a bottle to take home.
What you'll see along the way:

Castries
The capital city of Castries is home to several of St. Lucia's historical sites, such as the stone walls of the La Toc Battery Fort, and the uniquely decorated Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the largest church in the Caribbean. A major fire destroyed much of the city's structures between 1785 and 1948, but gingerbread-style older buildings can still be seen, and touches of French and British architectural influences have survived. Derek Walcott Square, named after the Nobel prize winner for literature, is the heart of the Old Town, surrounded by colorful landmarks, including the public library and colonial residences.

Photo Opportunities:
St. Marks
An authentic colonial mansion, typical of that of the wealthy merchants of the day, St. Marks is a grand home situated on Morne Fortune, a steep hill overlooking Castries harbor. The interior reflects both European and African influences, as it was the original home of a Scotsman who married a local woman. Generations later, this family home is well maintained, and from the north side of the house, picture-perfect views of Castries harbor can be found.

Morne Fortune, the "Hill of Good Luck"
A 17th-century strategic outpost that was a key battleground during the fight for St. Lucia's colonization, this historic fortress sits on the edge of a hilltop, commanding spectacular views of Castries. From this vantage point, you can see north to Pigeon Island or south to the Pitons, and on a clear day, you may even spot Martinique.

Shopping:
Head to the studio of Caribelle Batik, where many of the island's batik creations are made. Step inside the old Victorian mansion and see skilled craftsman demonstrating the art of batik and silk-screen printing. There are seamstresses on hand creating clothing and wall hangings that you can purchase in the shop to bring these island treasures home.

Snack:
A light, local snack includes banana, plantain or breadfruit chips, fruit in season, accras (fritters) or coconut cake.
