Prepare to be transported back in time on this compelling off-the-beaten-track tour of the archaeological sites of Solin and the ancient city island of Trogir.

Your activity-packed day starts at the pier in Split to meet your Guide and board the bus for the 30-minute drive to Solin. This pretty city grew out of the ancient town of Salona, which was once the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia and the birthplace of Diocletian, the emperor whose palace is one of the biggest attractions in Split.

On your arrival in Solin, which sits on the beautiful Jadro River, you will have 45 minutes to explore the fascinating Roman ruins, a magnet for tourists from around the globe. Your guide will lead you around many intriguing excavated sites which include an amphitheater, churches, public baths and burial grounds that date back to the 2nd century.

Returning to to the bus, enjoy the glorious views of the coastline and lush green countryside on the 20-minute transfer to Trogir.
This unique island city, a World Heritage Site since 1997, is connected to the mainland by a small bridge and as you drive through the town you will instantly notice the narrow winding lanes, street vendors and many shops and cafes.

Head to the religious center, St Lawrence Cathedral, which along with the Town Hall is one of the most impressive buildings here. Built in 1240, this medieval masterpiece is a striking example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture and boasts an impressive 154ft bell tower that was constructed in the 14th century.

A short walk away is Cipiko Palace, a truly unforgettable building, that dates back to the 15th century. The palace features a carved Venetian Gothic window and wooden statue of a cockerel, that was won in a navy battle in the mid 1400's.

With an hour of free time, you will also be able to independently explore this charming town. Seek out the Town Hall, an impressive stone building that is famous for its beautiful Gothic staircase and preserved winged lion of St Mark on the well. Then wander the open-air markets and shops at your leisure before heading back to your bus for the short ride back to port.
