This activity-packed day out starts with a big drive, almost two hours from boarding the bus at Split pier, onwards through the Croation countryside to the glorious national park.

But it's well worth the time as your Guide will be on hand to explain various landmarks and answer any questions you might have about the geography, culture and history of this amazing part of the world. Special points of interest to look out for on this exceptional bus journey include the limestone plateaus and river canyons.

The Adriatic coast attracts tourists from all over the world and you'll quickly see why as you enter Krka National Park, a breath-taking natural wonder. This vibrant area was declared a national park in 1985, one of seven in Croatia, and is named after the river that runs through all 35,000 acres. The park is a natural haven for over 400 species of animals, including Adriatic salmon, and thousands of different types of plant life but the true spectacle are the waterfalls, and before lunch you will have an hour to independently explore the falls and their crystal clear pools.

During your hour's free exploration of this magnificent park you may want to look out for one of the 222 species of birds that live here, wander along the glorious footpaths or simply browse the souvenir shop for gifts to take home.

Skradinski Buk, the part of the park you will be visiting, features the largest and most dramatic waterfall in Krka National Park at 151 feet in height and approximately 1,312 feet wide. Footpaths that meander above and below the falls offer the most dramatic and extensive views of this natural wonder. Swimming is allowed in some pools at certain times (your Guide will be able to advise you) so you may want to pack your swim gear and towel just in case you get the urge to jump in and cool down. Here, you will also be able to immerse yourself in ancient Croatian tradition on a guided tour of the fascinating Skradinski Buk mill, a working water-powered mill that is still in use today. The nearby museum will be able to provide you with a detailed history of the area, chronicling human settlements in the park, including amazing Neolithic cave dwellings.

A leisurely hour and a half lunch at one of the park's restaurants, gives you the chance to sample tasty local cuisine and maybe a glass of wine or two, as you plan your free afternoon in this glorious setting.

Then it's time to head back to the meet-up point for the comfortable journey back to the pier at Split, enjoying the many magnificent views of this extraordinary part of the Adriatic coastline.

This excursion requires extensive walking over uneven surfaces. Recommended for guests in good physical condition. Not recommended for passengers with mobility issues. Wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots. Bring a hat, sunglasses and adequate sun protection.
