WHAT YOU VISIT

The Historic Skagway Inn
Built in 1897, The Historic Skagway Inn originally catered to the rush of prospectors in the midst of the Gold Rush. Operating as a brothel, a family residence, and a boarding house, the inn retains its fascinating history and rich ambiance. Located downtown within the Klondike Gold Rush National Park Historic District, the inn is the ideal location to learn the secrets of some of the area's best recipes. You'll meet Karl Klupar, the chef and owner in the Saloon Room and learn about foods that were popular during the Gold Rush. Then, you'll walk to the garden in search of the perfect ingredients for the cooking demonstration and join the chef as he prepares three experiments that include smoking (and tasting) Alaska salmon or halibut, using purple cabbage to determine the acidity of foods, and making your own ice cream dessert!

SNACKS
Get hand's on with history, too, as you learn to use smoke, an ancient form of preservation, to preserve salmon or halibut. Also on the menu is handmade lemon verbena ice cream, coffee, iced tea and soft drinks.
