The Port of Skagen is the largest fishing port in Denmark, measured on the value of landings, and fishermen and their trade has always been the main business in Skagen. Embark on this interesting walking tour that brings you up close to the marina, the fishing industry, and the Engine Room - an engine museum that's one of its kind. At the Engine Room, you will get maritime and engine history up close as you wander through the vast collection of engines, both stationary and marine, as well as thousands of maritime and agricultural effects. At the entrance you will notice the distinct odeur of petrol and diesel. You will find a huge collection of engines enthroned here from industry giants such as BUKH, B&W and Frich from a local power plant, as well as an ever-growing collection of engines of all sizes designed for dinghies, cutters, agriculture and in the industry. In addition, you can experience the large collection of motorcycles, mopeds, and vintage cars. The walls are adorned with an impressive collection of name boards, ropes, hats, and waistcoats, etc., all testifying to the proud sailor and fisherman tradition of Skagen. Whether you are familiar with the machines or not, it doesn't matter - there is something for both the expert and the novice, and everyone in between, at the Engine Room. Your tour will lead you along the port area where you will hear tales of brave fishermen and the harsh living conditions in a small village like Skagen, of shipwrecks and dangerous rescue operations in the olden days and to this day, as we visit the Skagen Rescue Station. Hear the development of small fishing dinghies and pass by some of the modern mega trawlers that are landing thousands of tons of primarily herring, mackerel, and fish used for industries nowadays. Stop by the fish auction hall before continuing to the bustling marina visited by 12,000 leisure boats annually. A short shuttle ride will take you back to the ship.
