Double the dramatic architecture and historic sights when you visit two fascinating enclaves outside of Siracusa. Relax on a scenic 1.45-hour drive to Ragusa Ibla, a unique town rebuilt into two distinct sections after a devastating earthquake in 1693. Perched on a plateau, the Ragusa Supra is a baroque area that the land-owning nobility have settled, while the lower Ragusa Ibla is the domain of the working class. A guided 90-minute walking tour will take you past such highlights as the impressive baroque façade of St. George's Church as well as the 19th-century Giardino Ibleo and the 14th-century church of St. James the Apostle. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before journeying to Modica. Situated on the slopes of the Hyblaean Mountains, Modica was built on two tiers and boasts some of the most beautiful architecture in Sicily. See the sights, then indulge in some exquisite chocolate at a local dolceria. Return to port with a camera filled with beautiful memories of the day.
