Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Created more than a century ago to connect the city's citizens and farmers, Pike Place Market is a beloved Seattle treasure. Encompassing a nine-acre Market Historic District overlooking Elliott Bay, it's the place to buy directly from farmers, butchers, fishmongers, cheese mongers, bakers, winemakers and craftspeople. There are more than 200 small independent businesses and a diverse array of restaurants. Thus, it's the perfect venue for a half-day Pike Place Market Walking & Tasting Tour.

You'll explore and taste your way through the Market's streets and alleys with your knowledgeable guide to fill you in on all the behind-the-scenes history and culture. Duck into specialty stores such as Market Spice and the Souk carrying rare spices and teas from the around the world. Try a sample from one of the many delis specializing in meats, cheeses and special ingredients from the old country. Glimpse the bookstores, art galleries, dress shops and toy, comic and magic shops on your way to VIP visits to 9 different Market vendors.

There are dozens of restaurants for an eclectic dining scene, from an authentic Parisian bistro to a casual diner serving the fresh catch of the day with a view of Elliott Bay. The Pike Place Market neighborhood is home to more than 350 residents. Walk down the cobblestone street of Pike Place and take a moment to look up. The windows and balconies above the street belong to apartments that are homes to residents who live above the storefronts. And there are social services including the Pike Market Senior Center and Food Bank, Pike Market Childcare and Preschool, and Pike Market Clinic. Drop a coin or two in the mascot of the Pike Place Market Foundation. Rachel, the life-size bronze piggybank located under the Market clock and sign, is a favorite place to have your picture taken. Nearby, you'll applaud a "performance" of the famous Flying Fish. Join in the fun as expert "fish-handlers" toss around the catch-of-the-day.

There are so many things to see and do in the nine acres from Pike Street north to Virginia Street and from 1st Avenue to Western Avenue. The Market's historic warren of winding alleys, stairways and cobbled lanes offers a multisensory experience of sights, sounds, tastes, aromas and textures. Sample crab cakes, chowder and cheese during your insider's tour. Meet members of the famed Market family while visiting Iron Chef Tom Douglas' popular Pike Place Market eatery, the casual Seatown Seabar & Rotisserie. And, don't hesitate to stop at a booth or stall to pick up a bouquet of fresh-cut flowers and a plethora of locally-produced craft and food items.
