WHAT YOU VISIT
- Valparaiso
Nobel Laureate Pablo Neruda found the city so engaging he built two homes here. First on the itinerary is the stunning La Sebastiana. Five stories high, the large windows offer a stunning 360º view of the bay and the hills of Valparaiso. Each floor offers a glimpse into the life and inspiration of the Nobel Laureate. It's also noted as an important museum that's filled with a unique collection of personal items and art, such as a portrait of Walt Whitman. The second home, Isla Negra, showcases Neruda's love of the sea beginning with its nautical-inspired architecture and details like low ceilings, creaking wood floors and narrow passageways. Inside every room you'll see bottle collections, ship figureheads, maps, ships in bottles, and an impressive array of shells, which are located in their own "Under the Sea" room. The poet and his wife Matilde Urrutia were so entranced with the house and its surroundings that they are buried here with a clear view of their beloved beach.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Enjoy a photo stop at Valparaiso's central square called Plaza Sotomayor, site of the Naval Headquarters and the Monument to the Heroes of Iquique. This marks the spot where fallen heroes were buried from the War of the Pacific between Chile, Peru and Bolivia.

LUNCH
Indulge in a savory and tasty three-course meal accompanied by wine at a local restaurant.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Valparaiso is a charming seaport reminiscent of San Francisco, with a bay bordered by a hilly landscape dotted with stately old Victorian homes painted bright colors.
