WHAT YOU VISIT
- Valparaiso
Stretched out over 45 steep hills, Valparaiso boasts a laid-back attitude, winding streets and rich, colonial architecture worthy of its UNESCO World Heritage status. Its most memorable feature may be its crayon-colored neighborhoods that climb up hills so steep funiculars are used to traverse the dramatically graded landscape. The lower coastal section called "El Plan" is home to the Plaza Sotomayor, dominated by the Naval Headquarters building and the impressive monument to the Heroes of Iquique. "Los Cerros," or The Hills boasts steep staircases, narrow alleyways, and winding roads dotted with fine mansions.

- Viña del Mar
The seaside resort of Viña del Mar sits on a section of coast affectionately called the "Chilean Riviera." Here, you'll find ritzy hotels, world-class restaurants, palm-lined boulevards, lush parks and beaches. On a steep bluff stands Cerro Castillo, the summer palace of the Presidents of the Republic.

- Olmue
Known as the "city of elms," Olmue sits at the base of La Campana National Park. A World Biosphere Reserve, it's surrounded by mountains, hills and trails of the famed "Camino Real" route that once connected Santiago with Valparaíso in colonial times.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Get out your camera for a stop at Valparaiso's Paseo 21 de Mayo, a scenic terrace offering views of Valparaiso's 43 "cerros" or hills, skinny Victorians, and the sparkling harbor.

LUNCH
While in Olmue, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant surrounded by lush vegetation.
