The Cabrillo Beach Boulevard Bike Trail is the most popular Santa Barbara bike ride and this half-day excursion provides a great way to experience it. You'll pedal along the gorgeous coastline, catch a glimpse of the charming downtown with its historical sites and trendy hot spots, and admire the beauty of the city parks and nature preserves.

Dress for cycling with comfortable clothes, close-toed shoes and sunglasses. And bring a daypack for your sunscreen and sweater. Your friendly and knowledgeable guides will provide bikes, helmets, bottled water and loads of insight into the natural and cultural history of the area sprinkled with fascinating local trivia for an insider's look at Santa Barbara and its enchanting lifestyle.

You'll set off from Sea Landing in the Santa Barbara Harbor for a 10-mile round trip ride you'll experience one gorgeous view at a time. First, you'll ride along Stearns Wharf, the most visited attraction in Santa Barbara. It's the oldest working wharf in California and legend has it Salt Water Taffy was invented here by John Stearn's wife! See the locals enjoying the views of the Pacific Ocean, watching local fishing boats off-load their morning catches, visiting the aquarium, and delighting in the shops, eateries, and premier wineries.

Tourists like to rent the surries at Lower State Street for another kind of ride. Skater's Point is a well-loved 4,000 foot skate park under hundreds of palm trees with views of the ocean. Continuing your ride, you'll pass wildlife-abundant wetlands and pedal through the marina area. Look for giraffes when you pass the back of the Santa Barbara Zoo. The distant mountain vistas and the ducks swimming in the lagoon create a surreal beauty.

Enjoy the scenic stretch between Leadbetter Beach and the Andree Clark Bird Refuge near Montecito. This particular section of the path, across from Chase Palm Park, is especially pretty because of the rows of stately Mexican palms, the views of the sea beside you, the cliffs curving along the beach up ahead, and the bright beach succulents that bloom like mad in yellows and purples in spring. On Sundays, the Waterfront Arts and Crafts show is very popular along this stretch of Cabrillo Blvd. You may catch a glimpse of the photographs, sculptures, beaded jewelry, and paintings that are offered for sale and hear the thrumming of a funky drum circle as you glide by. With all the sailboats out at sea, your day will be as beautiful as it can possibly be.

Your bike ride ends at Arroyo Burro Beach The locals call it Hendry's Beach-a place to meet for breakfast or a cocktail at sunset, stroll or jog the sandy shore, watch for whales, surf fish, or ride the wild surf. Enjoy a break on its sandy beaches and relax in the cool grassy area as you wait to be transported back to Sea Landing, completing your tour.
