Imagine what life must have been like when French colonists arrived on these shores over 300 years ago. During this 2½-hour excursion you'll get a glimpse into their lives, their livelihood, 17th century culture and history with a visit to Nouvelle France. Wear comfortable walking shoes and be sure to bring a camera so you won't miss one memorable moment.

From the pier, you'll head east past through the town, of La Baie and on to Saint-FĂ©lix-d'Otis, which rests against a backdrop of forested hillsides and the splendid beauty of the Saguenay Fjord. Once you disembark you'll be struck by the quiet setting of this open-air museum. The treasure trove of buildings, costumed characters, experienced guides and archaeologists all help create the atmosphere of 17th century Quebec City.

Modern Quebec City may be recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but when French explorer Samuel de Champlain founded the city in 1608, it was a small Iroquois village. Years later, the city flourished and distinguished itself as the cradle of French civilization in North America.

Nouvelle France captures 17th century Quebec City with four recreated sets that include Upper Town, with its fortified ramparts, citadel and other defensive works; and Lower Town, which developed around the harbor and Place Royale, known as the city's spiritual and historical heart.

Another highlight is the Huron village, which celebrates the contributions of the First Nations people. Walk inside a longhouse, a traditional Huron home, and learn how they fished the surrounding waters and lived off the land. Soak up the unparalleled scenery while meandering around this sprawling site and witness the Cent Associés, a replica of the French trading company that was chartered to capitalize on the burgeoning fur trade and further France's exploration and settlement in the New World. And everywhere you look you'll meet re-enactors demonstrating crafts and everyday skills typical of this time period while explaining the way of life in New France.

When your walk through history comes to an end, you'll return to your transportation, perhaps laden with crafts from the gift shop and return to the pier.
