Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Discover some of the lesser-known treasures and the iconic sites of Rome -- a city that never ceases to amaze with its priceless artistic heritage.
Board the Roma Express -- a vintage train exclusively offered to cruise passengers -- which will take you to the Eternal City in great style, avoiding the chaotic traffic of the Italian capital. Upon arrival at San Pietro Station, meet your guide and board a coach. You're headed to the Colosseum area, where you will explore the Basilica of San Clemente. This church, one of Rome's most interesting churches, is built on three levels and provides a marvel cross-section of the history of the city. The first basilica was built on top of pre-existing Roman buildings in the 4th century AD, then destroyed by the Normans and rebuilt in 1108.
Your tour continues with a visit to the Church of San Pietro in Vincoli (St Peter in Chains) on Oppian Hill. It was built in the fifth century by Eudoxia, wife of the Emperor Valentinian III, to house the chains that bound Saint Peter during his imprisonment in Jerusalem. Inside, admire Michelangelo's magnificent sculpture, universally known as Moses.
A short stroll brings you to two great symbols of the city. The first is the Colosseum -- the famous arena of the gladiators, for an outside view; and the second, just across the street, is the Roman Forum (also an outside view). You can see the Arch of Titus leading to the forum, which was once the political and commercial center of Rome, Palatine Hill on your left, and Capitoline Hill at the far end of the Forum.
After a lunch of local specialties, your tour will continue to the Vatican. Walk through Bernini's Colonnade to access St Peter's Square and view St Peter's Basilica (external visit). Artists such as Bramante, Michelangelo, Raphael and Bernini have created, right here in this relatively small space, one of the most visited architectural masterpieces in the world.

Special Notes:

Wear comfortable walking shoes. On April 14, 2018 the tour route and duration may be affected by the Grand Prix street closures; your patience with any delays is greatly appreciated.
Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
