Board your air-conditioned transportation for a lovely scenic non-narrated drive to Gumbalimba Preservation Park. Upon arrival at this vast property, meet your guide and embark on an informal tour of the beautiful grounds. As you walk, make note of the activities that interest you most, as you will have ample time to explore independently. Gumbalimba Preservation Park's offerings are quite diverse, and with so much to choose from, it is often hard to know where to start! Highlights include a walk down the natural trail and the opportunity to climb a towering suspension bridge over a pond. It's a thrilling experience!
You'll know when you've reached the interactive bird sanctuary when free-flying parrots and macaws come down from the trees to say hello. Wander among the lush foliage and delight in these brightly colored and exotic birds. You won't want to miss a photo opportunity with one of the parrots sitting on your arm. For more animal interaction, visit the Monkey Refuge for a very unique experience with white faced monkeys. Comfortable with humans, these playful primates are willing and eager for you to hold and play with them, but beware; these mischievous monkeys love to steal sunglasses!
Arrh mateys! An attraction that's sure to please the buccaneer in everyone is the wonderful re-creation of Coxen's Cave, home to Captain John Coxen and his stolen treasure. Explore the history of the true pirates of the Caribbean by viewing their navigation maps and weapons. You'll also see murals depicting the history of Honduras drawn on the cave walls.
End your time at the park with a relaxing stroll through the Botanical Gardens. Walk along the stone pathways and discover peaceful waterfalls, brightly colored blossoms and an abundance of flora and fauna indigenous to the area. There are over 200 species of plants throughout the reserve. Not to be missed is the cactus garden, populated with the prickly plants that give way to spectacular blooms. You'll also encounter the charming hummingbird garden that delights all who enter and see the agile little birds up close. Wherever you look, nature, beauty and adventure surround you at Gumbalimba Preservation Park. Before returning to the ship, browse through the hacienda and discover arts, crafts and souvenirs to take home in memory of this very special day.
