Sambodrome (Sambodromo)
The ultimate "stadium" of samba and the venue of the Samba Parade of Rio de Janeiro, the Sambodrome was built in 1984 by Brazil's celebrated architect Oscar Niemeyer. It is a concrete structure that comes alive as thousands of cheering spectators and special-effects lighting accompany the spectacular, eye-poppingly colorful parades. There are spectator bleachers along each side of it offering seating at different price points. This tour includes reserved seating in the grandstand area.
What you will see along the way:
The Rio de Janeiro Carnival Samba Schools Parade is organized as a championship competition in which Samba schools vie for the opportunity to perform in the special group that parades on the official Carnival nights. These schools put on the ultimate show, with beautiful floats, fireworks, festive music and outrageous costumes, all trying their hardest to make it to the top. It is an incredible showcase of the greatest samba talent all in one parade of jaw-dropping extravagance. These schools are out to win a coveted spot, so spectators are treated to an incredible show.
