What you will visit:

Wendake Amerindian Village
Canada's only surviving Huron community is located northwest of Quebec City on the opposite shore of the St. Charles River. Upon arrival, meet Andawa Laveau, a Huron-Wendat member, proudly involved in her community. Become acquainted with the daily life and customs of the Huron people in the longhouse and learn about the techniques used for meat drying and food preservation methods in the smokehouse. Free time at the village offers the chance to do a little exploring, and a path leads to a replica of a 17th-century Huron village with wooden longhouses.

About Andawa Laveau
Andawa Laveau is a Huron-Wendat of the Bear Clan under the matrilineal system. In addition to being a person very involved and passionate about the culture of his Nation and the maintenance of traditions, he is also a musician, singer and guide-facilitator. The Bear Clan, in traditional Huron-Wendat symbolism, is the symbol of medicine. According to legend, the Red Mountain Bears kidnapped a Huron-Wendat couple to teach them the secret of medicinal plants. They then allowed the couple to return home to teach this science to their people. In the past, members of the Bear Clan have a duty to maintain knowledge of traditional medicine.
