What you will visit:

Qaqortoq

This charming town, the most populous in South Greenland, with 3,500 inhabitants, is home to candy-colored houses, colonial era buildings, and a lovely fountain adorned with whales spouting water out of their blowholes, which is considered the oldest fountain in the country.
Qaqortoq Hiking Expedition
Walk through the town of Qaqortoq to the great lake, a serene recreational area enjoyed by the locals. A guided hike around the glassine waters created by an inland ice cap is the opportunity to admire the beauty of Greenlandic nature. Take in the wildflowers and indigenous flora and fauna and bask in the quiet beauty of the windswept Arctic landscapes.

What you will see along the way:

In contrast to much of the ice-capped northern regions of the island, South Greenland is abundantly green. Sheep pastures and vegetable farms thrive at the base of sheer granite rock faces and border the fjords, whose icy waters are home to abundant marine life. A walk through Qaqortoq takes you from the sparkling harbor to the banks of the tiny town's water supply, Lake Tasersuaq, at the foothills of the majestic mountains.

Photo Opportunity:
Throughout your hike, you'll make stops to photograph the magnificent and varied Arctic landscape.

Notes:
Wear sturdy, non-skid walking shoes. Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. Not suitable for guests who suffer from asthma or heart or back conditions.
The level of guide experience varies in Qaqortoq due to the remoteness of its location. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here, and you are trading breadth of experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any language difficulties your guide may encounter and with any operational surprises that may crop up. Bring water and a snack from the ship.
You will be hiking for approximately five hours. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking, as the walk has inclines, steps and unpaved walking tracks. Minimum age is 10 years. There are no restrooms available on tour.

Special Notes:

Guest should bring Mosquito nets, mosquito repellent, good hiking shoes, water and a lunch from the ship. No toilet facilities available.
