Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Your half-day excursion begins as you board your transportation for a 30-minute drive to Club Andino, Punta Arenas's premier ski club, and one of the only ski clubs in the world to offer an ocean view.

Upon arriving, you'll be whisked up 4,500 feet up the mountain with your guide aboard a secure chair lift. From the top, you'll be awe-struck at the legendary Strait of Magellan and the city of Punta Arenas in the distance.

The Strait of Magellan separates South America from Tierra del Fuego and other islands south of the continent. Except for a few miles at its eastern end in Argentina, it passes through Chile. The strait, discovered by Ferdinand Magellan in 1520, was important in the days of sailing ships, especially before the building of the Panama Canal, and is still used by ships rounding South America. One of the most scenic waterways in the world, it affords an inland passage protected from almost continuous ocean storms. The major city on the strait is Punta Arenas, on the mainland.

The next leg of your excursion is all down hill, literally. At the descent point, you'll start hiking downhill on tree-covered slopes dotted with lush forests of Patagonian trees called coigues, lengas, and ñirres. The path through the woods gives a close-up look at nature and the chance to savor the crisp, fresh air. A snack of cookies and a cup of hot chocolate awaits your return to Club Andino.
