Your adventure begins the moment you step into the high-powered Zodiac and set off in search of the majestic mammals that frolic in the waters off Puerto Vallarta and come to these waters to calve.
The Zodiac offers an exhilarating alternative to large whale-watching cruises and is a spirited way to explore the waters. The marine life in the Bay of Banderas is plentiful, so keep your camera at the ready, as you never know what you will encounter. For your comfort, a light jacket and sunscreen are advised.
Puerto Vallarta is a preferred destination in Mexico for the sighting of humpback whales. It is here that the whales return from their summer feeding along the Pacific coast. The high success rate for sightings is due to the fact that the sheltered bays along the coastline offer perfect conditions for the whales to breed and calve.
The waters surrounding Puerto Vallarta are also an area with a plentiful dolphin population. Your 2.5 hours spent on the ocean is ample time to take in the natural wonders of the sea.
Everyone on board the vessel keeps a keen eye out. Whales will stay on the surface of the water for approximately 15 minutes before diving below. When they are spotted, the agile nature of the vessel allows the captain to get up close and personal for a unique encounter. You will have the best possible view and can photograph the whales without disturbing them.
Spouting is usually the first thing you will spot. It is the great plume of water and spray caused by the whale's exhaling of air. If you are truly lucky, you may see a whale breaching, which is when they leap almost completely out of the water. Or you may see a mother accompanied by her baby calf, a magical experience. Although we cannot put a guarantee on Mother Nature, whale-watching excursions in Puerto Vallarta have a high success rate.
At the conclusion of your tour, return to port with a camera filled with memories and enjoy the rest of the day to explore this sunny resort destination or return to the ship.
