Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

In July of 1865, more than 150 Welsh settlers sailed on the ship Mimosa from Liverpool to southern Patagonia to forge an overseas Welsh settlement. They chose this remote location envisioning a New Wales in South America, dedicated to preserving the Welsh culture in a foreign land. Today, a chain of quaint, traditional towns showcases the preservation of this distinct heritage.

Your full-day tour begins with a scenic two-hour drive through the Chubut River Valley. Your first destination is the Poet's House Museum. This museum recreates a vision of the world the first welsh settlers lived by showing their customs, rituals, lifestyle and traditional family environment.
Re-board the motorcoach and travel through pastoral landscapes en route to your next stop, Narlu Farm.

The air is scented with fresh lavender as you disembark at Narlu Farm. This charming working farm is dedicated to the harvesting of exceptional fruit. Here, raspberries, strawberries, cherries, peaches and other stone fruits are grown and used in a variety of locally made products. Tour this idyllic fruit farm and its small processing plant. Your guide will explain the process from planting to harvest to table, and you'll have time to snap some lovely photos and peruse the products and locally made handicrafts. Then it's on to Gaiman, a quaint village on the Rio Chubut. A walk through Gaiman takes you back in time, as this town is considered the center of the Welsh region. Much of the original Welsh architecture remains, and the Welsh language is still spoken here.

No visit to Gaiman would be complete without sitting down for a spot of Welsh tea. So famous is the area for its real Welsh tea experience that the late Princess Diana visited here and partook in a tea service in 1995. Enter Ty Gwyn, the oldest Welsh teahouse in the area, still run by descendants of original settlers to the area. The atmosphere is enchanting, and the staff dress in Welsh garb to authenticate the experience. This classic teahouse serves an herbal brew complemented by a variety of pastries and cakes. The traditional Welsh cake is similar to a sweet bread, studded with orange peel and raisons. As you enjoy your tea service, a choir of Welsh descendents will entertain you with songs in both Welsh and English.

At the completion of this culturally rich day, relax on the 1.5-hour drive back to the pier.
