What you will visit:
Bovington Tank Museum
Once the site of tank crew training during World War I, Bovington is now the home of a world-famous armored vehicle museum. Opened in the 1920s, the collection of almost 300 vehicles has been amassed from 26 countries, ranging from WWI era to the present. The tanks, along with displays of medals, personal items and uniforms, help illustrate the technological evolution of the machines of war, as well as telling the tales of soldiers and civilians during times of conflict.
What you will see along the way:
Portland Harbor, located at the southernmost part of the coast, was used for over 500 years by the British Royal Navy. Breakwater construction was performed between 1848 and 1905, creating one of the largest man-made harbors in the world. An important launch site during both World Wars, the harbor was used for naval exercises until 1995, after which the waters became popular for tourism and were used for the sailing events during the 2012 Olympic Games.
