What you will visit:
Port Elizabeth
With the warmth of your welcome, you'll immediately understand why it's called 'the friendly city.' Founded in 1820 to house British settlers who had arrived to strengthen the Cape Colony border region, Port Elizabeth is the third-largest seaport in South Africa and is part of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality. The city is a busy manufacturing center and home to the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. Located on Algoa Bay, the attractive coastline boasts an abundance of beaches, while the city is home to tranquil parks, many fascinating museums and a lively outdoor culture.

What you will see along the way:
Settle in for a sightseeing drive that takes in Port Elizabeth's most iconic sights, including a
memorial to the first British settlers, who arrived here in 1820, the beachfront of Summerstrand, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and Shark Rock Pier. In the city center, see the library, Feather Market, the post office and City Hall, including the Old Mayor's Garden and a replica of the Diaz Cross. Take in Donkin Memorial, Fort Frederick, St. George's Cricket Ground and Nelson Mandela Stadium.

Photo Opportunities:
Shark Rock Pier
An iconic feature of Port Elizabeth's beachfront, Shark Rock Pier is the only pier in Port Elizabeth and provides picture-perfect views of the coastline, Algoa Bay and the city.

Donkin Memorial -- Pyramid Monument
The Donkin Reserve, Pyramid and Lighthouse includes a Stone Pyramid Monument, approximately 33 feet (10 meters) tall, erected by Sir Rufane Donkin in memory of his late wife Elizabeth, after whom the city was named. It has a lovely message inscribed on it from Donkin: 'In the memory of one of the most perfect of human beings, who has given her name to the town below.' The lighthouse next to it was built in 1861.

The Nelson Mandela Stadium
This 46,000-seat stadium overlooks North End Lake and is the only world-class football stadium in the Eastern Cape province. It was built to serve as one of the 10 playing venues of the 2010 World Cup.
