Board a motorcoach for a relaxing drive through the core of Oslo. Founded in 1000, the city is Scandinavia's oldest capital. Continue through the modern suburbs and into the lush, rolling countryside of Jevnaker County. Your journey to Hadeland Glassworks is a wonderful way to experience the beauty of this picturesque setting.
Norway's proud heritage of fine glassmaking is on display at the exquisite Hadeland Glassworks gallery and museum. Founded in 1762, the glassworks is the oldest industrial company in Norway and has been in continuous operation since it opened. Situated in Jevnaker, the beautiful country surroundings create an idyllic backdrop to the artwork on display.
Inside, you are invited to watch the age-old tradition of blowing glass, an art form that has been practiced in the region for more that 200 years. You may even have the opportunity to try your hand at glass blowing and glass-design. A lovely museum displays Norwegian glass from the 1700s to the 19th century and showcases unique and intricate designs. Learn about the art and the artisans as you wander through the colorful galleries.
Refreshments are served in one of the facility's old, picturesque houses and you will be given ample time to shop for these beautiful objects d'art in the gift store.
Your tour continues with a visit to the unique Kistefos Museum, one of Europe's most important sculpture parks for contemporary art. Built on the grounds of a historical pulp mill, Kistefos today comprises an industrial museum, two art galleries and an impressive sculpture park in scenic surroundings. The Twist is a gallery, a bridge, and a sculpture, all in one. The 1000 square meter building twists into a sculptural form and spans 60 meters across the Randselva river. The building is cited as a "must-see" cultural destination by the New York Times, Bloomberg and The Telegraph, amongst others.
Your return motorcoach ride to the ship takes you along the shores of Lake Tyrifjord, a particularly striking setting with coastal and mountain views.
