Board your motorcoach for a scenic drive through Oslo en route to the Bygdoy Peninsula. Your route passes such city landmarks as the architecturally striking the magnificent Royal Palace and the historic National Theater.

Sitting on a peninsula, Bygdoy is a residential district in Oslo, that boast a number of museums all dedicated to the country's maritime history. The countryside scenery makes it a lovely and charming area to stroll.

Begin with the unique Viking Ship Museum, built in 1927 and designed by Arnstein Arneberg, one of the best-known Norwegian architects. This impressive museum houses three enormous Viking ships and a host of artifacts and treasures found in royal burial mounds in the Oslo fjord. The three Viking ships, Oseberg, Gokstad and Tune are exquisitely preserved and artifacts rarely recovered from the Viking age are on exhibit. Much of our knowledge of daily life in the Viking Age comes from these archaeological finds. The museum also has a gift shop with an extensive inventory of books and souvenirs.

Then, explore the Kon-Tiki Museum showcasing the famous expeditions of Norwegian adventurist Thor Heyerdahl who sailed the Pacific Ocean from South America to Polynesia in 1947. See Heyerdahl's famed Kon-Tiki raft, as well as his later vessel, the papyrus boat Ra II, on which Heyerdahl crossed the Atlantic at this exceptional museum filled with seafaring history. Among the fascinating displays you'll find a spectacular 30-foot replica of a whale shark, the largest fish in the ocean as well as an interactive replica of the Easter Island cave.

Your final stop is the uniquely designed Fram Museum, showcasing Nordic exploration and the world famous polar ship built in 1892. The vessel Fram has traveled further north and south than any other surface vessel. Roald Amundsend and Fritjof Nansen made several Artic and Antarctic expeditions on the vessel in the late 19th and early 20th century and the museum is a testament to their spirit and courage. The interactive facility houses their historical vessel, displayed in its original condition. The interior contains original artifacts and visitors are welcomed to go below to experience the living conditions. Additional displays feature the animals of the Polar region, a vast collection of books and there is a gift shop.

Return to the pier by motorcoach via a lovely scenic route.
