Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Board your motorcoach and begin winding your way through the charming streets of Oslo. You'll pass the stately 13th-century Akershus Fortress, an important national landmark and military building; the fortress overlooks the harbor and is used today for State functions.

Drive past "Stortorget" - the big market square. You will also see the magnificent Oslo Cathedral, with its ornate bronze doorway built in 1697, the impressive home to the Norwegian legislature. Along the way, pass the oldest part of Oslo University, which dates back to 1813.

The Royal Palace, situated on a rise, comes into view. This beautiful neo-classical building was originally built in 1848. It is upgraded and modernized with the advent of a new monarch and it is the primary residence of the Royal Family.

Carry on past the gates to the Vigeland Sculpture Park, the largest and most-noted sculpture garden in the world and begin the climb up Holmenkollen Hill.

Perched high above Oslo, Holmenkollen is the cradle of ski jumping and was the site of the 1952 Olympic ski-jumping competition. Chosen to host the 2011 Ski Jump Championship competition, a photo opportunity in the area is a wonderful way to capture a piece of sport's history.

Returning towards the town center you make a detour to the Bygdøy Peninsula where all the seafaring museums are located, like the Viking Ship Museum, the Fram Polar Ship Museum or the Kon-Tiki Museum. You will make a short photo-stop at the end of the peninsula with a wonderful view of Oslo harbour.

From there you will travel back into the centre, passing nearby the City Hall, inaugurated in 1950 at Oslo's 900-year jubilee. The building is renowned for its unique architectural design, and it is here that the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded each year on December 10th. Each hour, a 49-bell carillon can be heard cheerfully ringing from the East tower.

Your return drive to the pier follows the tranquil shoreline.
