Begin your walk at the pier where your guide will point out the statue of Franklin D. Roosevelt, which overlooks the harbor of Oslo.

Stroll down the wide streets to Oslo's City Hall, an architecturally designed modern landmark that not only houses the city council but an impressive collection of frescoes, woodcarvings, sculptures, and murals representing many aspects of Norwegian life. A visit inside the building will acquaint you with the history of this more than 900-year old city and its thriving culture.

Pass by two sites that pay homage to the city's theatrical heritage. See The National Theater, Norway's principle venue for the performing arts and continue to the restored apartment of the great playwright Henrik Ibsen.

Dramatically situated on a rise, the Royal Palace and its surrounding gardens are an elegant showpiece of neo-classic design. The palace is the primary residence of the Royal Family and this picture perfect building has been the symbol of the Norwegian monarch since 1814.

The wide main street of Oslo, known as Karl Johan is alive with activity and home to a number of historic attractions. Close by you will see the sprawling University of Oslo, ranked one of the world's top 100 universities. Henik Ibsen reportedly walked through this collegiate atmosphere everyday and you'll follow in his footsteps to his destination, the Grand Café, meeting point of the Bohemians in the 1890's.

As you begin your return walk to the ship, you'll see the impressive Parliament Building founded in 1866 and the splendid medieval Akershus Fortress that dominates the landscape.

Special Notes:

Passengers must be able to walk approximately 2.5 miles, over even paved and cobblestone surfaces, with inclines involved, to reach the Akershus Castle. Low heeled, comfortable walking shoes and comfortable, loose clothing are recommended.

Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.

This tour will operate in all weather conditions, so participants should take appropriate weather gear with them.

If the City Hall is closed for any unexpected official function, passengers will walk to the New Opera house and the Opera House roof for a photo stop.
