Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

This excursion is highly active, so be prepared for some serious exercise as you prepare to hike up to two of Norway's most stunning glaciers.

Wearing your most sturdy hiking or mountain boots, and warm layers, you may also want to pack a hat, sunglasses, and adequate sun protection, before boarding the motorcoach at Olden harbor.

Your guide will be on hand to narrate the drive through Olden, pointing out the delightful 18th century village church, and also the William H. Singer home and gallery.

The motorcoach will then continue on to the Brenndal Valley, passing both Floenvatnet and Oldevatnet lakes, whose waters are colored by clay and glacial silt.

You will not be walking directly on any glaciers during this hike, but following your guide, who will lead this hike that ascends the Brenndal Valley (approximately 90-minute roundtrip). Here, you will enjoy a scenic overlook of the Brendalsbreen, plus views of the surrounding peaks and magnificent Melkevoll Glacier. The stunning gray-and-white Brenndalsbreen glacier forms one of the three arms of the Jostedalsbreen, the largest ice sheet in Continental Europe.

Before you begin your second hike, you will stop to enjoy a hearty two-course lunch, served at the charming and picturesque, Briksdal Inn.

Heading back into the gorgeous valley, you will embark on a second hike to the face of Briksdal Glacier (approximately 90- minutes roundtrip). Like Brenndalsbreen, this glacier also forms one of the three arms of the Jostedalbreen ice sheet. Its face is colored with dramatic shades of blue and turquoise. After witnessing this unique sight at close quarters, you will walk back down to the motorcoach, for the drive back to the ship.
