What you will visit:

Hadrian's Wall
The most famous of all the frontiers of the Roman empire, the spectacular stone Hadrian's Wall was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987. It travels 73 miles across northern Britain from coast to coast and was constructed by the Roman army on the orders of Emperor Hadrian in 122 AD as a defensive fortification.

Chesters Roman Fort
The Roman Empire's northernmost outpost, this impressive fort is one of the best-preserved sites along Hadrian's Wall. Once home to a 500-man Roman cavalry unit, the site still holds the bathhouses, steam rooms, officers' quarters, principal gates and courtyard. There is also a regimental shrine and the ruins of an elaborate and luxurious house of a commandant. The adjacent Victorian-era museum exhibits Roman antiquities.

What you will see along the way:
Gaze out the window as your tour skirts the city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne before following the valley of the River Tyne west. This area is dominated by Hadrian's Wall, a stunning World Heritage Site set in a beautiful landscape. Travel along a road that follows the original route of the wall. On the return to Newcastle, you'll take the main road that offers stunning views of the River Tyne Valley.

Photo Opportunity:

Cawfields Roman Milecastle
One of the best-preserved and most picturesque stretches of Hadrian's Wall, the Milecastle was built to protect one of the weaker points of the wall. It is the most intact milecastle along the wall and is surrounded by gorgeous countryside, dotted by farm animals that comes to graze.

Special Notes:

Guests touring Chesters Roman Fort must walk along a pathway approximately 200 yards long to the main site. The site has uneven and unpaved ground.
