Journey to Durham and walk its medieval streets for a visit to Durham Cathedral. Begin with a photo stop at the Angel of the North, a wonderful steel sculpture. Then continue a short distance to Durham. Commence a walking tour of the historic city center, a designated World Heritage Site, climbing up the hill to Durham Cathedral, built overlooking the river in the 12th century as a shrine to St. Cuthbert. Exploration reveals the history and architecture of the cathedral, which is a magnificent example of a building in the Norman style. Across Palace Green, snap a photo of Durham Castle. You'll explore some of the medieval buildings from the outside, as well as the history of the prince bishops, who ruled the Northern Kingdom from the 14th century after being granted special powers by the king. A countryside drive returns you to port.

Special Notes:

This tour involves extensive walking, including an approximately 15-20 minute walk from the motorcoach drop-off to the cathedral. Not recommended for passengers with limited mobility.

Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.

Entrance into Durham Castle is not included in the Tour.
