Procida, the 2022 Capital of Culture

Procida 
Nestled between Ischia and Capri, Procida was celebrated as Italy's Capital of Culture in 2022, the first island to ever win the title. Just under two square miles, this picturesque spot is known for its candy-colored houses, narrow alleyways and sparkling waterfront. Via Roma is Procida's main street and has two notable churches: Chiesa di Santa Maria della Pietà, an 18th-century church with an iconic baroque belfry, and the lemon-yellow church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, built in 1679. A walking tour introduces the main port of Marina Grande, local craft shops, the historic center and the fragrant lemon groves tucked behind each building facade. 

Terra Murata 
A fortified medieval stronghold situated at the northernmost tip of the island, Terra Murata is home to tiny alleyways, steep streets and crumbling houses that mark the island's ancient center. Notable sights include the Abbazia San Michele Arcangelo, which honors Procida's patron saint, and the 16th-century Palazzo D'Avalos, the former residence of the island's governing family.  

Corricella 
A romantic little harbor brimming with character, exquisite vistas, and atmospheric charm, vibrant Corricella resembles a rainbow, as local fishermen still preserve the ancient tradition of painting their houses with bright colors to guide them home when at sea. Wander the narrow streets and admire the unique architecture, an interlacement of arches, domes, stairs, and loggias preserved from the 17th century. If Corricella feels familiar, it is because it served as the backdrop to several Hollywood films including "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and "Il Postino."  

What you will see along the way: 
Procida is the smallest island in the Bay of Naples, a 40 to 50 minute hydrofoil ride from Naples. Noted for its scenic splendor, it offers breathtaking views of candy-hued villages that cling to the steep, volcanic hills, and lush, sun-drenched vegetation all set against azure waters and a bright blue sky. 

Snack: 
Your day includes a refreshing soft drink and lingue di Procida, the must-eat sweet treat on the island, also known as lingue di bue, or ox tongues, for their oblong shape. Those wanting a more substantial meal can enjoy lunch at their own expense at the myriad cafes. 

Special Notes:

In Procida, the transportation utilized will be private taxis. Moderate walking is included with some hills and steps at Corricella. Not suitable for guests with walking difficulties or suffering from heart diseases. Passengers suffering from motion sickness may wish to take the jetfoil ride to Procida into consideration. The jetfoil ride to Procida is approximately 45 minutes each way. Lunch is on your own; bring local currency or credit cards. 

Medical Restriction:

Not recommended for passengers on Wheelchairs/Scooters/Walkers.
