What you will visit:

Estrella del Mar Turtle Sanctuary

Established in 1998, the Estrella del Mar Turtle Sanctuary is dedicated to the protection, rehabilitation and conservation of the sea turtle within its natural environment. Here, marine biologists gather endangered gulf turtle eggs and incubate them in a safe environment. During the summer months, the busy breeding season begins. When the turtles arrive on the shores, trained staff follow them to their nest to excavate, catalogue and relocate the eggs to a safe nursery where they will be protected from predators and man. The eggs are placed at the exact depth that the mother laid them and allowed to incubate for 45 days. Normally, hatchlings would immediately return to the sea, but the sanctuary allows the tiny turtles time to gain strength before placing them back on the sand during the night when they are less visible to predators so they can make their dash to the ocean.
Estrella del Mar Beach Resort

Nestled on the pristine shores of Stone Island, this quiet resort offers a private pool and a beautiful beach perfect for beachcombing or just relaxing with your toes in the sand. This pleasant, vendor-free atmosphere offers a peaceful getaway. Please wear your swimsuit under your clothes and bring a towel, sun protection and a hat.

What you will see along the way:

A scenic drive brings you to Stone Island, actually not an island but a peninsula, reached off the south end of the coast of Old Mazatlan. Travel along its beach, lined with a lush coconut grove, to the Estrella de Mar resort area.

Lunch:

A delicious lunch with beverages, such as sodas and water, is served.

Special Notes:

A portion of your tour cost goes to support the turtle project. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, hat, and reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen (no other kind of sunscreen is allowed in the water). To avoid sunburn, bring light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up.. Minimum age is 8 years.
