Explore the most cherished places of interest on the island of Maui on an amazing driving tour that traverses 180 degrees around the West Maui Mountains, then heads over to Upcountry Maui, the North Shore, and to the island's lush central isthmus.
Begin your adventure at the pier where you will be welcomed aboard your comfortable sightseeing van by a friendly and knowledgeable guide. Enjoy the expert insight and narration as you soak up the beauty of Maui's many natural and man-made wonders. All stops include short walks for great views and compelling venues, so be sure to keep your camera well stocked with batteries and a fresh memory card.
Your first stop as you drive around the West Maui Mountains is McGregor Point, where whales are often seen leaping from the sea during the winter and spring.
Next, head to Upcountry Maui and historic Makawao town, where you can still see remnants of this historic hamlet's paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) past. Today, Makawao is known more as a thriving arts community. Visit the shop of two of the leading glassblowers in Hawaii; a charming art gallery that boasts works from a myriad of local artists; take in the quaint history museum; or simply sit in the shade outside the public library and 'talk story' with the locals.
On Maui's spectacular North Shore, discover one of the most famous windsurfing sites in the world. You'll pause for a few moments to watch the powerful ocean swells characteristic of this area. Watch for aquatic athletes negotiating the waves with their colorful sailboards.
Then, head to the scenic valley between Haleakala and the West Maui Mountains for a visit to Kepaniwai Park & Heritage Gardens and the Maui Tropical Plantation to see lush gardens, beautiful views and a chance to pick up souvenirs. Finally, drive back to Lahaina's Harbor along the golden sand beaches of Maui's west coast.
Having worked up an appetite, you'll stop at a convenient point during the tour for a refreshing lunch consisting of fresh island fruit and a turkey sandwich. At the conclusion of the tour, you'll circle back to the pier, concluding your unforgettable Maui adventure.
