This approximately two-hour excursion offers a little bit of everything you're looking for while on vacation so if you long to go sunning, strolling, swimming, snorkeling or shopping then Espiritu Santo is your own fantasy island.

Your mask, snorkel and reef shoes are provided for snorkeling; if you prefer to swim, then flotation noodles are on hand. All you need to bring is your bathing suit, hat, towel, sunscreen and insect repellant. Be sure to bring an underwater camera to capture the colorful sea life, which includes a great variety of corals, anemones, spectacular clams, and tropical fish in Technicolor hues.

After boarding your non a/c transportation you'll travel the short distance down Luganville's main street, built by the Navy Seabees during World War II, along the island's southern coast to the Segond Channel. Situated between Espiritu Santo and Aore Island, Segond Channel was an important secure harbour during the war and was the staging point for the American charge on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands.

Today, the sheltered waters of the channel are home to the Coral and Clam Garden. Developed by landowners Pio and his wife Evette over 13 years, the shallow coral reef holds an abundance of marine life. While visiting, you can not only help feed the fish but you can also take the plunge and dive right in and swim or snorkel in the sparkling waters.

Once you arrive, your hosts will greet you and offer a brief snorkeling demonstration. As you slip beneath the turquoise waters experience the joy of floating through the 28o c water among an abundant array of marine life.

Have your camera handy, some of the wonders down under include the hard and soft coral reefs that surround the island, leathery looking sea cucumbers, giant clams, starfish and many species of tropical fish such as the orange and white Nemo clownfish, brilliant parrotfish, and butterfly fish in an amazing array of colors and patterns.

Back on dry land, there's a lot for landlubbers to do, too. Shop for sarongs, baskets and locally made artifacts or, for an additional fee, you can have your hair braided or you can indulge in a pleasant massage. Thirsty? Cool off with a refreshing beer or soft drink as you watch the clouds roll by.

At the conclusion of your visit, you'll climb back aboard your mini-bus and return to your ship, relaxed and ready to begin your next adventure.
