What you will visit:

Magdalena Bay Whale-Watching Adventure

Magdalena Bay is a haven for a vast array of wildlife, but this peaceful, nutrient-rich waterway is most noted for sheltering the gray whales that migrate south from chilly Alaska in February to spend their winter in the Mexican sunshine. New mothers and their calves are known to stay in Baja well into May to take advantage of these sheltered waters. Whale watching is carefully regulated here, and the whales exhibit a surprising curiosity and desire to interact with humans. Many will literally come boatside to take a peek at you. You will spend two hours on the water in a sturdy skiff with a provided life vest.

What you will see along the way:

It is an approximately two-hour motorcoach journey from the city of Loreto to the launch site at Magdalena Bay. Along the way, take in picturesque views of the peninsula and varied landscapes as you cross from the Sea of Cortez to the Pacific side while your naturalist guide describes the endemic and regional vegetation. Look closely and you might spot a snake, rabbit, roadrunner, or even a tarantula crossing the road. Once on the water, be on the lookout for pods of gray whales. Here, the gray whales have developed a unique culture that thrives on human interaction, so it is quite possible that during your adventure you will have extreme, up close views of the whales and possibly their calves. You may even splash the water around them and gently pet them.
