Leeds Castle & Canterbury with Time on Your Own

Begin your excursion at the pier in Dover as you board your motorcoach and drive to historic Leeds Castle, home to six English queens and a playground of Henry VIII. Follow a tree-lined stream through the estate and venture out on to the grounds, the two islands on which the castle lies. Pass through the 13th century Gate Tower. Take a self-guided tour of the castle. Castle guides are stationed throughout the castle to answer any questions during your visit. The restored rooms boast tapestries, paintings and furnishings. The castle's gift shop has a variety of offerings for those interested in shopping for mementos.

You'll continue on to the city of Canterbury. England's most famous cathedral city presents a fascinating mélange of the medieval and the modern. Long stretches of the city walls survive, which were built during the 13th and 14th century atop Roman foundations. Wander the streets at your leisure to admire the architecture, browse the many shops or eat lunch on your own.

From Canterbury, your return route to Dover travels through the green and rolling landscape of the Kent countryside, passing orchards, hop fields, woods, old timbered farmhouses and the picturesque cottages of the villages of Sandwich and Deal.
