What You Will Visit:
Piran:
Considered the prettiest of the Slovene towns, tiny Piran, which requires only 30 minutes to walk from one side to the other, is perched on the tip of a strip of land that juts into the sea. From the 13th through the 18th century, Piran was part of the Venetian empire and in the early 1900s was part of Italy. Rich in cultural and historic traditions, its well-preserved Old Town reveals Venetian architecture, colorful little houses and sweeping views of the Slovenian coast. The world-famous violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini was born and raised in Piran, and a bronze statue commemorating him is found in the oval-shaped main square.
Private Winery:
Winemaking holds a long tradition in Slovenian culture and remains a symbol of pride for the country. A private, family-owned hilltop estate and winery welcomes guests to its expansive vineyards surrounded by olive trees. In the woods of the property grow truffles, a fancy delicacy and one of the most expensive foods in the world. You will be greeted by a truffle expert who is also a fervent wine producer and private chef. He will present a story that will give you a unique taste of the region. After the visit at the estate and a truffle hunt demonstration with specially trained tracker dogs, enjoy a wonderful freshly prepared lunch with wine.
What You See Along the Way:
The Slovenian Istria includes charming villages, vineyards, fruit groves and traditional inns. Traffic signage can be read in both Slovene and Italian. In Piran, heritage buildings include the ornate Municipal Palace, Tartini Theatre, and Apollonio Palace. High above the town on a hilltop stands the Church of Saint George.
Lunch:
A tasting of local wines accompanies a delightful lunch of regional dishes served amidst the winery settling. The sampler menu includes an appetizer of cold meat, cheeses and pâté, followed by traditional pasta with truffles and dessert.
