Postojna Cave

Your tour begins as you board your motorcoach for a scenic, 75-minute drive to Predjama Castle in the Karst region. En route, you'll travel through limestone hills dotted with vineyards, orchards and olive groves.

Upon arriving in the Karst region, you'll be awestruck at the flowing streams and limestone hills riddled with caves. You'll make a photo stop at Predjama Castle before continuing to Postojna Cave.

Predjama Castle was a former hideout for the bold knight Erazem of Predjama, a "robber baron" and the subject of a romantic and beautiful legend. The current fortress is a Renaissance castle begun in 1583, but evidence indicates that this steep and imposing cliff has been fortified since at least the 13th century.

Just a stone's throw away is Postojna Cave. Here, you'll board the cave train and travel deep into the heart of the cave on a 90-minute tour. Along the route, you'll witness a number of chambers and galleries and view multicolored stalactites, stalagmites and other calcite formations. Before your return drive to the pier, you'll have free time to explore the caves.

Special Notes:

This tour involves extensive walking over uneven and cobbled surfaces. Surfaces in Postojna Cave may be wet and slippery due to underground condensation. Not recommended for guests with limited mobility.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a hat and light waterproof jacket. Constant temperature in the cave is around 8°C or 46°F so dress accordingly or dress in layers. Inside of the cave is very humid. The walking surface in the cave is covered with an anti-slip material that will make it easier to walk.
