Medieval Piran

Your tour begins as you board your motorcoach for a scenic, 30-minute drive from Koper to Piran, traveling the length of the Piran Peninsula.

Upon arriving, you'll embark on a walking tour of the historical city center. As the ancient port faces Italy across the Gulf of Trieste, your tour promises breathtaking views and a myriad of photo opportunities.

Piran was part of Venice's vast trading empire and the birthplace of composer and violinist, Giuseppe Tartini, famous for his sonata "The Devil's Trill." The port boasts well-preserved medieval streets and buildings that rise from the waterfront to the cathedral.

Together with your guide, you'll take in such sights as the 14th-century Church of St. Francis, the Venetian Palace and Jewish Square in the heart of the Old Town. You'll have free time to explore Piran before your return drive to the pier. En route, you'll witness the nearby saltpans that played an important role in Mediterranean trade since before the days of the Caesars.

This tour involves extensive walking over uneven and cobbled surfaces. Not recommended for guests with limited mobility. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a hat. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
