Sintra & Cascais

Spend a relaxing half-day exploring Portugal's wonderful coastline and countryside, starting with a scenic drive from the pier at Lisbon, through the city and on towards Sintra.

Accompanied by your guide, you will drive through the Belem district, passing by the breath-taking Jerominos Monastery, the unique Monument to the Discoveries and Belem Tower fortress, which sits on the edge of the Tagus River.

On arrival at Sintra, which is set high in the mountains, you will be enthralled by this pretty town that has been written about by many poetry and novelists through the ages. As one of Portugal's oldest cities,

The rest of Sintra is equally impressive, dotted with the manor houses and castles of feudal lords and monarchs. From the central square, you will be able to gaze up at the 8th-century, Castle of the Moors fortress, which sits on the top of the hill near the city.

Enjoy browsing the shops that surround this delightful 15th-century square, or relax at a local café and enjoy a refreshing beverage while you watch the world go by.

Climbing back on to the bus, you will then head towards the small fishing village of Cascais, which is now a popular destination for holidaymakers.

At Cascais, enjoy the breeze from the sea, as you take in the relaxing ocean views and stroll the streets, shopping for gifts and souvenirs.

The town boasts an interesting mixture of early 20th-century homes, modern buildings and also several small sandy beaches.

After enjoying this pretty beach resort, you will climb back onto the bus for the return journey to Lisbon, passing by many seaside villages and the mouth of the Tagus.
