What you will visit:
Hacienda Tayutic
Situated 35 miles east of San Jose, Hacienda Tayutic belongs to the Ortuño Family. Perched on a hilltop overlooking a spectacular vista of the valley surrounded by mountains reflected in a sparkling river. The hacienda serves as both a family residence and a boutique guest house and maintains much of the charms of the colonial days. Visitors are introduced to the production of sugarcane, coffee and macadamia nuts, which have been produced as the family business for generations. Engage in informative production demonstrations and enjoy a tasting of the products.
What you will see along the way:
It is an approximately two-hour drive to Hacienda Tayutic, nestled in the mountains near Turrialba, a charming town in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. Your route takes you through lush countryside, past banana plantations and up into the mountains as your guide narrates about the local economy and way of life. The hacienda is perched on the side of a hill overlooking expansive views of Turrialba in the Central Valley, the Reventazon River and its impressive dam, and verdant fields dotting the landscape.
Photo Opportunity:
A picturesque, colonial, metallic and wood chapel with sun-lit stained-glass windows brought by German pilgrims in 1880 makes for a beautiful photo opportunity.
Shopping:
Pick up a wide selection of the hacienda's products, such as coffee and macadamia nuts in various flavors, as well as organic sugarcane products, recipes and other local souvenirs, in the charming gift shop.
