Delve into ancient history, marvel at Peruvian prancing horses, and savor the tastes of a buffet lunch during your visit to a sprawling hacienda in the scenic countryside. This moderate full-day tour is sure to create indelible images of a thrilling culture, present and past.

Set off from your ship in the port city of Callao and enjoy an overview of Peru's pre-Columbian history while visiting the Larco Herrera Museum. Here, we enter an ancient world of continual fascination as over 3,000 years of Peru's pre-Columbian history unfold before us. Pore over the finest collection of gold, silver and semiprecious stone artistry in Peru. Study some of the ancient Incan culture's finest examples of textile work and huaco ceramics and see the tools the masterful artisans used to fashion these timeless treasures.

Then sit back and watch the scenery unfold on an informative drive that takes you southeast of Lima into the Valley of the Lurín River arriving at the vast archaeological citadel of Pachacamac. Built around 700 A.D. by successive pre-Colombian civilizations, this painstakingly restored complex of palaces, plazas and temples is believed to be one of the region's main pilgrimage centers.

Imagine what this sacred ceremonial site must have been like when thousands of pilgrims converged to pay tribute to the Sun God. Picture the pageantry created by the high priests, who kept, revered and interpreted the divine oracle, performing their rituals in secret before the idol of Pachacamac.

Let your imagination, and your experienced guide, lead you from one structure to another, marveling at a site that holds the key to ancient secrets: the Temple of Pachacamac, the Sun God shrine, and the Palace of the Chosen Women or Virgins of the Sun was considered to be part of the planet's mystical axis!

Expand on this unforgettable experience with a visit to another of Peru's national treasures. The Peruvian Paso Horse, celebrated for its naturally smooth "prancing" gait as well as for its uncommon endurance and steady temperament, has been instated in the Patrimonio Cultural, the Cultural Heritage of Peru.

Much desired by breeders around the world, the country has put laws in place to restrict the export of national champion horses resulting in a resurgence of the breed in its country of origin. Haciendas have thrown open their doors to share their beloved Paso Horses with visitors from around the globe.

Today you'll be a guest at a traditional hacienda where you will be amazed to see this noble horse perform in a show full of grace and beauty. Many of these horses and their "chalanes" (trainers and riders) participate in the most important contests across Peru and abroad.

Rounding out your hacienda experience is a traditional folklore show of Peruvian music and dance re-creating the lively party ambiance that is so typical of the Peruvian countryside. Then sit down to a savory lunch characterized by Peru's flavors.

With the return drive to Callao and the pier spotlighting points of interest like the Pan-American Highway and the commercial and residential districts of Lima, you will finish your day with a stunning panorama of memorable images.
