Enjoy a feast for the senses during this captivating half-day tour across the lush, tropical northern end of Lifou. The adventure begins with a scenic drive in an air conditioning-free motorcoach through Easo, a seaside settlement boasting splendid bay views and traditional homes with bountiful, flowering gardens. As your guide, a cheerful, friendly local, shares tidbits about the area, take in the robust flora and fauna lining the rustic roads. Along the way, watch for the historic chapel Notre Dame de Lourdes, built in 1898 by Catholic missionaries atop the area's dramatic tree-covered cliffs, the view from which is considered one of the island's prettiest. On the chapel's rooftop, notice the regal iron statue of "Our Lady of Lourdes," which once tumbled to the sea in a storm but was restored thanks to the efforts of a intrepid group of sport divers.

Continue along through a cool, tropical forest to arrive at Mucaweng Vanilla Plantation, a working vanilla farm with over 1,000 plants. Enjoy a guided tour of the beautiful plantation, which owner Felix Bolé launched in 1983 with cuttings garnered from Lifou's first English missionaries. While exploring this idyllic setting, which includes robust ferns resting on raised coral "pillars" and vanilla vines draped over the branches of trees, learn how vanilla is harvested and how vanilla-infused products are produced. Savor the enticing aroma of organic vanilla pods and delight in sampling vanilla-flavored coffee or tea.

Back on the road, travel to the towering cliffs of Jokin, a charming village along Lifou's rugged northern coast. Once the walls of the island's barrier reef, these breathtaking, 120-foot cliffs consist of layers of ancient fossilized coral built up over time. Snap photos from the soaring cliffs, which overlook crystal-clear aquamarine water teeming with vibrant sea life, easy to spot from above. As you cherish the incredible views, watch for whales, which are often spotted frolicking in the distance. Enjoy time to explore Jokin Village while savoring fresh coconut milk, a welcome gift upon arrival. As tall palms waver in the island breeze, meander amongst traditional buildings including an impressive, round meeting hut topped by an intricate thatched roof.

Eventually, enjoy a relaxing return trip to port along tropical, tree-lined roads. Before reboarding your ship, comb through local stands for souvenirs, crafts and artwork that capture the magic of this enchanting South Pacific.
