Description
Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
Meet your guide at the pier and board the motorcoach for the short drive of Posebyen, one of the oldest sections of the Quadraturen. Originally a working class neighborhood of modest, white-painted wooden homes, Posebyen survived the great fire of 1892, which engulfed much of the city. Today, the charming streets are lined with a mix of residences, shops, galleries and cafés.
Enjoy a guided walk before boarding your motorcoach once again for the approximately 30 minute drive to Møvig and the Kristiansand Cannon Museum. After the Nazi invasion of 1940, the Germans constructed two massive shore batteries to protect the Skagerrak, the long strait connecting the Baltic and North Seas. One battery was located in Denmark, the other - the Vara Battery - was built near Kristiansand. Each battery was armed with a 15-inch Krupp cannon with a range of 30 miles. After World War II, the Vara Battery served as a shore defense installation for the Norwegian military
Today the Kristiansand Cannon Museum is home to one of the world's last surviving Krupp 15-inch cannon. This massive artillery piece weighs over 330 tons. Tour the museum, gain a close-up look at one of the world's largest artillery pieces, and explore the historical exhibits on display in the battery's bunkers.
Board your motorcoach for the return trip to Kristiansand and the ship.
