WHAT YOU VISIT
Iya Valley
Located deep in the heart of Shikoku Island, the secluded area is famous for its steep mountain slopes and deep rocky gorges that were once crossed by bridges handmade with ropes and vines. These bridges were a means of transporting people and goods across gorges and valleys and the Kazurabashi Bridge is one of three remaining rope bridges left from over a dozen that used to be located throughout the region. Stretching 160 feet across a gulch and 45 feet above a small river, it's very well-maintained and is rebuilt every three years.

Oboke Gorge
Located near the entrance of Iya Valley, the scenic gorge was cut by the swirling rapids of the Yoshino River. After receiving your safety equipment and a brief safety orientation, you'll set out on an approximately 30-minute boat ride down the river. As you drift along, you'll pass narrow banks crowded with maple trees, nut trees, azaleas and a number of rocks that resemble animal forms such as a "komori" (bat) and "shishi" (lion).

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Bring your camera for incredible photographs from two perspectives-from a suspension bridge at the top of the valley and the watery wonderland of the Yoshino River.

LUNCH
After crossing the incredible heights of Kazurabashi Bridge, you'll be rewarded with a delicious lunch.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
The Iya Valley's location deep in the mountains of Shikoku is a world of unspoiled natural scenery of forested mountains, narrow river gorges, and rustic vine bridges where samurai would hide to thwart their enemies.
er lunch at a local restaurant, board your coach for the return trip to Kochi.
