Description
Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
Soak up the great outdoors and savor the incomparable taste of Alaska's fantastic seafood on an excursion that begins as soon as you step onto your comfortable motorcoach. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and comfortable, warm clothes and bring along a camera for the picture-perfect sights you'll encounter. Then, sit back and relax as your guide points out areas of interest as you make your way through Ketchikan. Then, you'll leave Alaska's "First City" behind and travel north to Clover Pass Resort, the oldest, continuously operated fishing resort in the state.
Admire the picturesque scenery of Revillagigedo Island as you amble along its rugged shoreline. Soon, you'll arrive at Clover Pass Resort. Here, you'll meet your boat crew, who will get you properly outfitted for the next phase of your adventure…a wilderness cruise aboard a boat bound for fun and jaw-dropping sights.
Keep your camera handy; as you cruise the waterway, wildlife such as porpoises and seals are frequent visitors along the tour route. Whales are often sighted in May and September. You'll put your camera to good use when you make an enjoyable stop at a nearby active eagle's nest. Your onboard guide will regale you with tales about "America's Bird" while you look for hatchlings in the nest. Then, your captain will navigate his way through bays and inlets while your narrator gives you insights into the land, the air, and the sea. Learn about the timber industry, how it shaped the development of Alaska, and get a feeling for "life on the island." Your boat will also venture past the Back Island Naval Testing Facility, the Navy's primary acoustic engineering measurement facility in the Pacific and home to some of the most sensitive "ears" on the planet.
Then, you'll arrive at Silverking Lodge, located in the heart of Grant Island State Marine Park. During your visit you'll have the chance to check out this working fishing lodge and watch the fishermen as they make their way back from a day on the water.
Next, take a leisurely trek up the lodge's boardwalk and see the largest known red cedar in the Tongass National Forest. From here, you'll set off on a nature walk into the heart of the rainforest for an up-close and personal look at the flora and fauna of southeast Alaska. Breathe in the cool, crisp air, marvel at the immense Sitka spruce and Western hemlock trees and work up an appetite.
Finish your tour under the lodge's covered gazebo and get ready for a delectable seafood feast consisting of a satisfying meal of crab, shrimp, clams, mussels, potatoes, onions, garlic, corn, and sausage (all cooked in one delicious pot and served piping hot on your table)! If you have any room left, feel free to top your meal off with dessert.
Before returning to the boat and trip back to your ship, you'll have free time to take more photos, grab a souvenir from the gift shop, or explore the lodge.
