What you will visit:
Neets Bay Bear Cruise
Some of the best black bear sightings are found in Ketchikan and along the shoreline of Neets Bay. Here, one of the most productive salmon hatcheries in southeast Alaska is found, and the area attracts a large population of bears that comb the coastline and streams feasting on salmon and the vegetation on the shore. Your vessel will silently glide through these waters, taking in the spectacular scenery, then moving as close as possible to the bears for wonderful photographs. The comfortable, 65-foot vessel includes a cozy inside cabin and observation decks, and a naturalist guide enhances the cruise with lively commentary.
What you will see along the way:
Your scenic cruise to Neets Bay begins with views of Ketchikan International Airport, Port Gravina, and Ward Cove. Continuing on past Totem Bight State Park, which showcases Tlingit and Haida totem poles, you'll glide past Guard Island Lighthouse. Once your captain turns into Neets Bay, the cruise begins in search of black bears on the beach. Additional wildlife sightings may include harbor seals, eagles and, if you're lucky, whales. Later, you'll enjoy the scenic coastal drive down the North Tongass Highway.
Snack:
Refresh with a lovely snack of smoked sockeye salmon dip served with Pilot Bread crackers and locally made jams and jellies, hot chocolate and coffee.
Special Notes:
This tour operates in all weather conditions and is available late July through September. Wildlife sightings are frequent yet not guaranteed. Bring a warm, rainproof jacket to wear on the topside observation deck.Details
